Interior Designing Do’s and Don’ts for Beginners

Not every one of us has the luxury to hire interior design firms in Gurgaon. Doing the entire interior on your own can become a daunting process. Even after heavily researching the trends and studying the major interior concepts, the chance of making blunders are high for a novice. Being naive I, myself was devastated when things didn’t work out the way I had planned for my apartment. Thankfully, a friend who is employed at one of the best interior design firms in Gurgaon rescued me from the mess. I was impressed by his strategic and creative approach. We had to rearrange the furnishings, art(paintings and antiques show pieces mostly), and change upholstery.

Though it was an epic disaster, I have learned my lesson. The bedroom suite was dark(my wife screamed at the top of her lungs for the horrific transformation). I don’t want anyone else to repeat the mistakes I made.

Here are some do’s and don’ts to save you from interior failures -

Don’t Put Furniture Against Wall - Placing your sofa close to the wall is a good idea but you can’t do it to every piece of furniture in your room. Leave some space, maybe a few inches between the furnishings and walls. It makes the room more breathable. This trick is commonly used in bar Interior design.

Don’t Paint the Wall First - Rummaging through the supermarket for home articles and items that match your walls can be an excruciating task. If you don’t find a sofa set that blends with the theme, you end up buying something halfheartedly. Painting walls at the last gives homeowners the freedom to pick furnishings and curtains according to their taste and preferences.

Do Limit the Shades - Usage of too many colours create gimmicks. A cohesive look is essential for a serene and impressive interior. No need to draw a rainbow here unless you are doing the bar interior design. Choose three to four shades. Vary their intensity in every room for an individualistic yet classic touch. Opting for a different colour scheme in every room makes the space tacky and confuse the minds of the occupants.
Do Dramatize Small Spaces -  All your attention is shifted to the rooms entirely, we forget those narrow part of the house. Bright tint in the hallway and other small areas open up space. They stop the eyes and create an illusion of bigger space. Use this hack only in well-lit corners of your home.
